RANGE REBUILD INFO
Spring
has arrived and that means it time for the GAMELINES Range Rebuild effort!
In
the January newsletter, Bob requested all members participate in a MANDATORY
work day plus an additional work day to fulfill your working membership
for this year. The relocation effort on the property will be extensive and
best to be done before the summer heat so family members can enjoy shooting the
range!
ATTENTION:
The first work day will focus exclusively on trail construction and
ground clearing of target location in new area.
The range work party dates (weather permitting) are:
Saturday May 14 – 9:00 am
Sunday May 22 – 9:00 am
DURATION: Plan on
working 5-6 hours
TOOLS: Bring leather gloves, shovels, hand saws
Don’t forget lunch. Water and Gatorade will be provided along with
snacks.
The weather for Saturday is looking to be in our favor for the range trail
construction work that is needed.
Thank you to those that have RSVP’d with the dates you can attend. This
helps out tremendously in knowing this in advance.
See you on the Range

Great news!
As of MARCH
28th we have the final CDOW/Federal approval for the
$4000. grant to rebuild the range.
That means
that we can initiate some important target and material
purchases to help complete the range rebuild to be finished by the end
of MAY.
The first major work day as published
is APRIL 16th.
RANGE REPORT - February,
2011
The
Gamelines Mountain Field range
burned in the 4 Mile Canyon Fire last Fall. We lost most all of our 3D targets.
We are diligently rebuilding the range in 2011 on a new section of the property
that we lease. Our lease is good for over ten years. The new facility complete
with new 3Ds and exciting new shots simulating bowhunting experiences will be
open in APRIL 2011.
Gamelines
private mountain-field range is of the finest quality. Most archers think it is
the most challenging in the state that is still fun to shoot. The 3D targets are
placed at unmarked distances and can range from 7 to 60 yards. Life-sized foam
game animals are strategically placed throughout the field range. These 3-D
animal targets are set in realistic, bowhunting settings, enhancing your
shooting challenge and practice. The targets have minimal, if any, exposed
backstops. We have a tree stand shot for practice and a pit blind shot
situation. We use mostly Rinehart targets that are of excellent quality and very
realistic.
Additionally,
the range supports a practice range, broadhead sight-in range and running
target. The setting is wooded on steep mountainous terrain designed to simulate
the hunting experience. The outdoor range is a member-patrolled facility. Each
member is issued a yearly Range Pass which must be worn visibly at all times
when using the facility.
The
practice range is on flatter ground and lies at the entrance of the field range.
Only field points can be used here and on the field range (the use of broadheads
in these two areas will terminate your membership). The broadhead range is
located further up the access road and there you can sight in your bow and
broadheads at marked distances up to 70 yards.
Crossbows,
alcohol, pets, and smoking are not allowed on the range.
We
have opened our club to new membership at this time. We do not have unlimited
membership openings.
You
are welcome to submit a membership application.
2011
RANGE REBUILD REPORTS AND WORK DAY INFO
February 16, 2011
The
new range planning is progressing very well as is the securing of the new
3D targets and other associated range materials, signs, etc. We envision a range
with approximately 20 – 25 stations, most with multiple targets at varying
distances.
Camp Paul Hummel,
the property owner, has a forestry crew on the land now clearing the lower brush
and small trees that are unwanted. The brush-slash piles will be burned over the
next two months so that we should have access to this ground in April…
hopefully sooner.
We have completed
several expeditions onto this new property and have a pretty good idea of what
we can do regarding the actual range layout, target positions and challenges,
etc. This property will allow us to have many exciting shot opportunities
simulating real bowhunting situations and experiences. We were able to keep the
tree stand and will actually start the range with the original target one
location followed by a few other stations leading directly to the tree stand.
Some of this property was damaged by the fire but we have permission to use this
route to initiate the new range. From the tree stand archers will go north
across the road west of the radio towers and then make a large counter-clockwise
loop around the hill heading back towards the road below the hill leading up to
the picnic area.
We sweep across that
road swinging up into the woods for some additional shots then finish with some
exciting, steep cliff shots before ending up at the picnic area.
